Additional Chief Secretary Kaushik Mukherjee has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Karnataka Government.

Mr Mukherjee (58), 1978 IAS batch, will succeed S V Ranganath, who will be retiring on October 31. An order issued by the State Government on Tuesday said that S. V. Ranganath, is retiring from service on superannuation.

Mr Mukherjee, who holds ME and BE in Electrical Engineering, served in various administrative capacities in the State Government. He was born on September 8, 1955 in West Bengal.

The State Government has extended the service of Mr Ranganath twice – first on the advice of the Election Commission of India and then by the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah after he formed the government.

Mr Ranganath addressed a meeting of secretaries and principal secretaries of the various departments on Tuesday morning and thanked the officials for their cooperation.

In the evening, Karnataka Government Secretariat Employees Association held a send-off function to Mr Ranganath.

Mr Ranganath has served seven chief ministers directly, has vast administrative experience. He was Joint Secretary to Ramakrishna Hegde, Secretary to M Veerappa Moily and H D Deve Gowda, Principal Secretary to S M Krishna, N Dharam Singh, H D Kumaraswamy and the Chief Secretary in the Siddaramaiah government.
