Product of the week: Ditto Forensic FieldStation
Manufacturer: CRU-DataPort
Description: The Ditto Forensic FieldStation is a new product in the data security and mobile device manufacturer's WiebeTech line of forensics and e-discovery products. The Ditto Forensic FieldStation is a hand-held device that creates disk clones and images without a computer, supporting write-block input from SATA, eSATA, PATA, iSCSI, USB 2.0, and network drives. Legal professionals can configure and manage the unit via network or from the unit itself, which sports an LCD monitor and central navigation controls to select options on displayed pages. The Ditto logs all user activity and maintains a chain of custody for collected disk images.
The Ditto supports a web browser interface for remote operation over the internet or a local area network. The browser provides access to the device's configuration and user administration as well as direct operation for cloning and imaging operations. For walk-up operation, the Ditto has a built-in menu system that makes it easy for a technician to perform on-site forensic collections without the aid of a computer.
The Ditto can output dual SATA and eSATA images and send results to network volumes and RAID enclosures. The device has several data acquisition modes including image clone, UNIX data dump (DD), and Guidance Software's Logical Evidence File E01 with MD5 or SHA-1 hashing. The Ditto is also capable of erasing drives with preset erase modes such as Secure Erase or with user-configurable patterns. An optional water-resistant, dust-proof Pelican custom carrying case is available.
